Compared to its predecessor, the self-noise is very low, making it one of the quietest microphones in its class.

The microphone also has improved sensitivity and a higher SPL. The -10 dB and -20 dB pad switches provide a wider dynamic range, making the microphone suitable for a wide range of applications and close-mic techniques. Even for the loudest instruments, such as electric guitars, fortissimo brass and kick drums.

The low cut filter can be switched to 80Hz or 160Hz, both filters eliminate low-frequency noise and compensate for the peak (proximity effect) in close-mic techniques.

Unlike the cheaply built housings of other "entry-level" microphones, the X1 S features an all-metal housing. This provides suppression of electrical interference and noise.
